    THE NUTRITION SERVICE ASSOCIATE PERFORMS MEAL SERVICE DUTIES ON TRAY-LINE, IN THE CAFETERIA, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES, AND SPECIAL FUNCTIONS THROUGHOUT THE HOSPITAL FACILITY. WASHES DISHES FOR PATIENT SERVICE AND CAFETERIA SERVICE. RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSIGNED SANITATION. TRANSPORTS FOOD/SUPPLIES/TRAYS TO EAST/WEST UNIT. RECEIVES AND STORES FOOD INVENTORY.

     

    THE COOK, AS A MEMBER OF NUTRITION SERVICES PREPARES AND COOKS MEALS FOR EMPLOYEES, HOSPITAL VISITORS, AND PATIENTS, USING SAFE AND EFFECTIVE MEANS. FORECAST FOOD VOLUMES REQUIRED FOR PREPARATION.

     

    THE CARE REP, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE INPATIENT CATERING TO YOU MANAGER, FACILITATES COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PATIENTS, NURSING, AND NUTRITION SERVICES. ASSISTS CLINICAL STAFF WITH PATIENT REQUESTS AND PREFERENCES AND ENTERS SAID DATA INTO THE INFORMATION SYSTEM TO BETTER ORGANIZE PATIENT NOURISHMENT. DELIVERS TRAYS AND FOOD TO PATIENTS AND COLLECTS UPON COMPLETION. PREPARES AND DELIVERS NOURISHMENTS TO PATIENT FLOORS. APPLIES DIET THERAPY IN TRAY-LINE AND PRODUCTION AREAS.

    Responsibilities

     

    ESSENTIAL-CORE-   JOB DUTIES-

     

    *Complies with PENN   HIGHLANDS DUBOIS policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements,   and federal, state or local law and regulations

     

     

    FOOD SERVICE WORKER

    Setting up, delivery/   service, and clean-up for meal service in all patient-care areas

     

     

    Completes floor care and   trash removal at department closing

     

     

    Assists with dish-room   tasks and cleaning assignments

     

     

    Assists in set-up /   clean-up of Cafeteria and special functions

     

     

    Portions   food using the correct serving size for portion control

     

     

    Prepares inventories and   distributes individual and bulk nourishments to patient service areas

     

     

     

     

    Assists in food   preparation as indicated on position production sheet

     

     

    Applies   diet therapy in tray-line and production areas

     

    Transports   food/supplies/trays to east/west unit

     

    Receives   and stores food inventory

     

     

    COOK

    Setting up, delivery/   service, and clean-up for meal service in all patient-care areas

     

     

    Prepares food items for   Tray line, Cafeteria, and Therapeutic Diets as described by required amount,   recipe, and quality control

    Organizes   work to be done, in an effective and efficient manner

     

    Maintains a neat,   orderly, clean and sanitized work area

     

    Participates in daily   production meetings, to aid in effective pre-planning and problem solving

     

    Forecasts volume for   recipes used in specific preparation and prepares the appropriate production   sheets/labels in specific areas, using the SPH   computer system

    Reviews daily production   sheets and manages left-over food production

     

    Requisitions   supplies as required

     

     

    Serves   on Tray line

     

    Understands   and practices portion control.

     

     

    Demonstrates correct   cooking techniques such as: steaming, roasting, baking, boiling, sautéing,   and frying.

     

    Must demonstrate working   knowledge of commercial cooking equipment and kitchen tools, as well as knife   skills.

     

    Must demonstrate a   working knowledge of correct and appropriate therapeutic diet applications.

     

    CARE REP

    Facilitates meal-service   between Patients, Nutrition Services and Nursing

     

    Efficiently and   effectively confirms diet orders, allergies, and dislikes. Updates in   Nutrition Services computer systems as needed.  

     

    Organizes Patient   nourishment, checks for acceptance and discuss with Registered Dietician.

     

    Enters patient meal   selections efficiently and correctly into computer. Adjusts carbohydrates,   fluid levels etc. as needed to comply with diet order.

     

    Notifies RD if patients   needs diet education.

     

    Performs clerical duties   as needed

     

    General   Duties as directed

     

    Qualifications

    • NUTRITION SERVICE ASSOCIATE ROLE: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT PREFERRED
    • CARE REP/COOK ROLES: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT PREFERRED        
    • 6 MONTHS + EXPERIENCE IN KITCHEN AREA PREFERRED
    • MUST UNDERSTAND UNIT MEASUREMENTS, SUCH AS OUNCES, POUNDS, CUPS, ETC.  MUST KNOW HOW TO USE A SCALE
    • FOOD SAFETY – HACCP – “SERV SAFE” FOOD SAFETY COURSE MATERIAL AND/OR CERTIFICATE PREFERRED
    • FOOD PREPARATION SKILLS PREFERRED
