    The Patient Care Tech, under the supervision of professional nursing personnel, assists and provides patient care utilizing standards of care.


    *Complies with Penn Highlands DuBois policies and procedures,  accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and local law and regulations


    *Demonstrates knowledge of age-related needs of the patient, provides patient care based on these needs as evidenced by but not limited to:

    • Assists with patient care activities of daily living
    • Obtains vital signs, intake and output, and weights and documents on appropriate forms
    • Performs procedures under direct supervision of the RN as deemed competent
    • Assists with admission, discharge and transport of patients
    • Obtains specimens according to health care professionals’ instructions
    • Responds promptly to patient requests and meets patient care needs and/or reports to the RN as appropriate
    • Checks each patient a minimum of every 15 minutes or more frequently during their assigned shift
    • Maintains cleanliness of patient rooms and work environment
    • Provides patient care based on the priority of needs and available resources
    • Reports changes in patient's condition to RN and follows-up with given instructions
    • Provides a shift summary by reporting on assigned patients to RN in charge
    • Utilizes cost effective measures in delivering patient care
    • Monitors the health care environment and implements measures to maintain safety of staff, patients, and visitors
    • Supports and demonstrates understanding of mission and goals of the unit
    • Identifies patient problems/focus through observation and interaction
    • Implements patient care in accordance with Penn Highlands DuBois standards of care, policies and procedures

    *Participates in the development of new staff as evidenced by but not limited to:

    • Actively participates in the orientation including cultural and social integration of new staff

    *Demonstrates personal accountability as evidenced by but not limited to:

    • Participates in implementing departmental initiatives
    • Conducts self in professional manner in dress, actions, and interpersonal communication
    • Ensures environment of safety for patients, significant others, and coworkers
    • Informs Director Nursing Operations /
    • Supervisor/ Service Line Director of patient care situations and departmental problems as appropriate
    • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills for clinical and departmental issues

    *Ensures an environment of patient safety through:

    • Performs patient safety/observation checks every 15 minutes
    • Complies with contraband policy
    • Reports changes in behavior that puts the patient or others at risk
    • Complies with restraint / seclusion policies

    *Maintains current CPR and Comprehensive Crisis Management certifications

    General duties as directed


    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Current Pennsylvania nursing assistant, EMT, or Paramedic certification or Completion of nursing assistant course  or Completion of clinical medical assistant program or Completion of one semester of clinical experience in RN nursing school  orCurrent experience as nursing assistant or Bachelor Degree in health related field

    • One year patient care experience preferred
    • Current Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification required within 6 months of start date in department/position
    • Comprehensive Crisis

      Management certification within 12 months of start date in department/position
    • Familiarity with medical terminology
