    Position Summary:  The Patient Care Tech, under the supervision of professional nursing personnel, assists and provides

    patient care utilizing standards of care.


    Job Duties:


    Complies with policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state or local law and regulations


    Demonstrates knowledge of age-related needs of the patient, provides patient care based on these needs as evidenced by but not limited to:

    • Obtains vital signs, intake and output, and weights
    • Assists with personal hygiene and positioning of patient
    • Performs procedures (i.e.. application of warm compresses or cold ice packs, simple dressing changes, etc.) under direct supervision of the RN
    • Responds promptly to patient call bells and patient needs
    • Promptly reports changes in patient condition to the RN
    • Checks each patient and repositions, ambulates, and meets patient needs a minimum of every 2 hours and more frequently as needed
    • Maintains cleanliness of patient rooms
    • Maintains cleanliness of and restocks supply areas and utility room

    Participates in the development of new staff as evidenced by but not limited to:

    • Actively participates in the orientation including cultural and social integration of new staff

    Demonstrates personal accountability as evidenced by but not limited to:

    • Achieves educational credits to meet hospital requirements
    • Shares information obtained at education conferences to staff members
    • Participates in implementing departmental initiatives
    • Conducts self in professional manner in dress, actions, and interpersonal communication
    • Ensures environment of safety for patients, significant others, and coworkers
    • Informs Director/Supervisor/Clinical Manager of patient care situations and departmental problems as appropriate
    • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills for clinical and departmental issues

    Other duties as assigned


    • Completion of high school or equivalent required
    • One year patient care experience preferred
    • Must meet one of the following qualifications:
      • Current Pennsylvania nursing assistant, EMT or Paramedic certification
      • Completion of Nursing Assistant Course
      • Completion of Clinical Medical Assistant Program
      • Completion of one semester of nursing school (RN or LPN program)
      • Current experience as nursing assistant
    • Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification required within 6 months of start date
    • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCM) certification required within 18 months of start date
    • For PCA's on the Progressive Care Unit Only: Basic Arrhythmia course completed within 12 months required.
