The Advanced Practice Provider functions as an essential member of the team in the practice setting and on units as indicated by physician needs. 

Responsibilities

*Complies with PH DuBois   policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal,   state or local law and regulations

Makes decisions   regarding data gathering and appropriate management and the treatment of   patients being seen for the initial evaluation of a problem or the follow-up   evaluation of a previously diagnosed and stabilized condition.

Initiate, by the   observation of patient’s condition, appropriate evaluation and care provided   within the practice setting and as directed within the hospital setting.

 

Examines patient,   performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical   data, including health history and results of physical examination

Establish   medical priorities based on the assessment findings.

 

Administers or orders   diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and   interprets test results for deviations from normal

Performs therapeutic   procedures as delineated on the clinical privileges form. 

 

Develops   and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists   in provision of continuity of care

 

Provides patient care   and instructions as delegated by the physician supervisor that are within the   scope of the physician supervisor’s practice, and the physician assistant is   qualified to perform.

 

Performs clinical   procedures as delineated in the written agreement between the supervising   physician and the physician assistant

 

Performs clinical procedures   and takes orders to dispense drugs as reviewed with the supervising   physician.

Reviews patient   treatment regimen and changes the regimen and provides this information to   the treating physician.

Coordinates patient care   with other treatment members.

 

Counsels and instructs   patients regarding their health care.

 

Assures adequate patient   health records are maintained and transferred as required when patients are   referred to other facilities.

Attends   and reports at all appropriate meetings.

 

Actively   teaches patients, when appropriate, and provides staff training to promote   effective patient education.

Provides   instruction and professional educational programs for staff.

 

Performs   administrative duties as assigned.

 

Promotes   scientific inquiry in clinical practice using the research process to improve   practice.

Supports   the data collection, analysis, and evaluation required for performance   improvement initiatives.

Applies   statistical and analytic knowledge in performance improvement activities.

 

Identifies   PI initiatives and supports the required data collection, analysis, and   evaluation required for performance improvement initiatives.

Oversees   the development and implementation of clinical pathways and nursing care   standards specific to the needs of the Orthopaedic patient, with other team   members.

Conducts   community educational programs to support the business   development.

Provides   on call coverage under the supervision of the physician as requested.

Other   duties as directed.

Qualifications

**Position to float between all Penn Highlands facilities (Brookville, Clearfield, DuBois and Elk)**

 

  • Masters Degree in Nursing required. 
  • Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse licensure required. 
  • Current certification as a nurse practitioner from a board-recognized national certification organization (as per the Pennsylvania state board of nursing) which requires the passing of a national certifying examination in the particular clinical speciality area in which the applicant is seeking certification by the board required.  
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
  • Maintains current ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.

OR

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program required..
  • Maintain a license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required. 
  • National certification required. 
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Physician Assistant preferred.
  • Maintains ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.
