    The office nurse, in support of the physician or mid-level provider will assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care in the office.  He/she will be required to coordinate the care with other PH DuBois services, or outside health care providers.  The office nurse will serve as a liaison between the physician, the mid-level provider and all other health care providers. 


    *Complies with PH DuBois policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state or local law and regulations


    Takes and records patients' vital signs, health history and prepares patient prior to examination by the physician or mid-level provider.

    Dresses wounds, gives injections, and provides immunizations


    Calls in prescriptions to pharmacies and hands out samples as reviewed by the ordering physician.  Explains dosage amounts and times, drug/food interactions.

    Collects biological specimens , such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing and performs in-office laboratory tests

    Performs various in office testing, such as EKG, vision, hearing, and others.

    Explains the examinations, procedures, testing, follow-up care to patient and family and answers any questions they may have.

    Assists and supports physician or mid-level provider to develop and implement a treatment plan for each patient.

    Cleans examination rooms, prepare examination tables, and answers patients' questions


    Assess patient presenting themselves for registration by asking questions or observing physical signs for serious medical and/or psychiatric problems which may require immediate medical attention

    Coordinates patient care with ancillary services by consulting with those departments, scheduling, preparing requisitions, and instructing the patient

    Documents information in patient charts according to policy.


    Inventories and requisitions supplies, including sample medications.  Checks for outdates and proper disposal.

    Compiles record and file medical charts, reports, and correspondence.


    Assists in office clerical duties, such as filing, completion of forms, and maintenance of patient charts.


    Demonstrates basic knowledge of billing and coding practices and regulatory requirements of payers such as Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Shield and commercial carriers; maintains proficiency by attending inservices and regularly scheduled task force meetings.  Seeks guidance when questions on billing issues arise.

    Other duties as assigned.


    • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
    • Current LPN licensure in the state of Pennsylvania required.
    • Knowledge in regulatory requirements of third party payors such as Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Shield preferred.  
    • CPR certification from the American Heart Association within the first year of hire required.
    • Two years of office experience preferred. 
    • Familiarity with Microsoft applications preferred.
