THE PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT PROVIDES DIRECT PATIENT CARE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED PHYSICAL THERAPIST.  WORKS WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE ESTABLISHED TREATMENT PLAN TO IMPROVE AND RESTORE PATIENT FUNCTION.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with DRMC polices and procedures, with accreditation agency requirements, federal, state, or local law and regulations.
  • Performs active & passive therapeutic exercise on patients, including therapeutic massage
  • Applies therapeutic modalities as directed by the attending physician or PT
  • Demonstrates knowledge of indications and contra-indications of PT procedures.
  • Instructs, motivates, and assists patients in learning and improving functional activities: transfers, ADL’s, Educating on home program recommendations.
  • Uses physical therapy evaluation results and under the supervision of the physical therapist implements age appropriate physical therapy treatment program. 
  • Maintains or checks daily charges for patients
  • Attends and reports at Team Conference when involving a patient they treat directly.  Confers with other health team members to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for modifying and coordinating treatment program
  • Measures range of motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to assist
  • Maintains necessary records including, but not limited to weekly progress note, summary, treatment record and physician certification forms.  Obtains co signature of licensed physical therapist when required

Assumes responsibility as a health care worker as evidenced by:

  • Complies w/ departmental policies regarding attendance & work schedule
  • Attends in-service programs on new products/equipment and procedures
  • Participates in improvement of dept. through individual/ team contribution
  • Provides feedback to enhance coworker performance
  • Participates in unit staff meetings as scheduled
  • Complies with departmental and unit policies regarding dress code

 

  • Utilizes effective interpersonal skills relating to the patient, family, and members of the health care team.
  • Other duties as directed

Qualifications

 

  • ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT REQUIRED.  
  • CURRENT LICENSE AS A PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT IN PA REQUIRED.
  • SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF FIMS WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF START DATE IF WORKING IN REHABILITATION CENTER.
