    The Nurse Practitioner functions as an essential member of the team in the practice setting and on units as indicated by physician needs. 


    • Complies with DRMC polices and procedures, with accreditation agency requirements, federal, state, or local law and regulations.
    • Makes decisions regarding data gathering and appropriate management and the treatment of patients being seen for the initial evaluation of a problem or the follow-up evaluation of a previously diagnosed and stabilized condition.
    • Initiate, by the observation of patient’s condition, appropriate evaluation and care provided within the practice setting and as directed within the hospital setting.
    • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
    • Establish medical priorities based on the assessment findings.
    • Administers and/or orders diagnostic tests, such as radiology and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviation from normal.
    • Performs therapeutic procedures as delineated on the clinical privileges form.
    • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of patient care.
    • Provides patient care and instructions as delegated by the physician supervisor that are within the scope of the physician supervisor’s practice, and the nurse practitioner is qualified to perform.
    • Performs clinical procedures and takes orders to dispense drugs as reviewed with the supervising physician.
    • Reviews patient treatment regimen and changes the regimen and provides this information to the treating physician.
    • Coordinates patient care with other treatment members.
    • Executes or relays medical regimens as directed by the supervising physician.
    • Counsels and instructs patients regarding their health care.
    • Assures adequate patient health records are maintained and transferred as required when patients are referred to other facilities.
    • Actively teaches patients, when appropriate, and provides staff training to promote effective patient education.
    • Performs administrative duties as assigned.
    • Dispenses medications under current Pennsylvania State Law and relevant regulatory guidelines.
    • Promotes scientific inquiry in clinical practice using the research process to improve practice.
    • Supports the data collection, analysis, and evaluation required for performance improvement initiatives.
    • Applies statistical and analytic knowledge in performance improvement activities.
    • Identifies PI initiatives and supports the required data collection, analysis, and evaluation required for performance improvement initiatives.
    • Oversees the development and implementation of clinical pathways and nursing care standards specific to the needs of the OB/Gyn patient, with other team members.
    • Implements infection control measures according to hospital policy and procedures.
    • Collaborates to develop and implement safety and preventative maintenance programs.
    • Conducts community educational programs to support the practice’s business development.
    • Provides on call coverage under the supervision of the physician as requested by the physician.
    • Other duties as directed.


    • Masters Degree in Nursing required.
    • Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse licensure required.
    • Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner from a board-recognized national certification organization (as per the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing) which requires the passing of a national certifiying examination in the particular clinic specialty area in which the applicant is seeking certification by the board.
    • CPR certification from American Heart Association required.
    • Minimum of (1) year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
    • Maintain current ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certifications.
